Macro-Friendly Chicken Nuggets

These macro-friendly chicken nuggets are a great alternative to the fast food version. Each nugget has almost 5 grams of protein and only 30 calories!

There’s a common misconception I hear time and time again when it comes to diet culture. If you want to lose weight, you have to eat plain food that’s flavorless.

This couldn’t be further from the truth! Making these copycat, fast food-inspired dishes are some of my favorite recipes. Because when you break down the ingredients, it’s pretty easy to make them macro-friendly.

Take these chicken nuggets for example. Chicken is an excellent source of lean protein. And when you add the correct seasoning, they don’t need to be deep fried in oil to taste good.

Ingredients

  • 1lb 98% fat-free ground chicken breast
  • 2 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 whole egg

Tools You’ll Need

Have these measuring tools handy to make these macro-friendly chicken nuggets:

  • 1 tsp
  • 1 tbsp
  • 1/4 cup

How to Make Macro-Friendly Chicken Nuggets

Begin by preheating your oven to 425° F or 220° C. Add ground chicken, yellow mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper to a large mixing bowl.

Mix the ingredients to spread the seasoning evenly before forming the chicken nuggets. Then, place the nuggets on a large baking sheet sprayed with non-stick cooking oil to prevent them from sticking.

If you want to be precise, I would suggest using a kitchen scale. If you don’t have one, that’s okay too. Just make the chicken nuggets the same size so they cook evenly.

For the coating, add the flour and cornstarch to a bowl. In another bowl, add a mixed egg. Place each chicken nugget in the egg before coating it with the dry mixture.

Once the chicken nuggets are fully coated, cook them for 16-18 minutes or until the internal temperature is 165° F (or 75°C). Remove the chicken nuggets from your oven and enjoy!

Notes

You can get creative when it comes to dipping sauces. BBQ sauce and fry sauce (ketchup and mayonnaise) are my favorites.
