What Cheese Does Subway Use?

One of my favorite things about Subway is their selection of cheeses. There are plenty of options that can be added to your sandwich. This brings us to the following question: what cheese does Subway use?

The main cheeses at Subway restaurants are:

  • American cheese
  • Pepper Jack
  • Provolone
  • Swiss
  • Monterey Cheddar
  • Shredded Mozzarella

One thing to keep in mind is that not all locations will offer all of these cheeses. For example, the Subway in my area doesn’t have Swiss, or shredded mozzarella.

This is a common practice in most fast food restaurants. Just like some locations won’t offer gluten-free bread, not all Subway restaurants will have every type of cheese.

How to Find Subway Cheese

One of the easiest ways to find out what type of cheese Subway offers near you is on their website. Click on “Find a Subway” and type in your address, city, or zip code.

Let’s use New York, NY as an example.

I’ll select the Subway restaurant located at 112 John St. Click on “Pick Up Here” and begin building your sandwich.

In this example, I’ll choose the oven-roasted turkey sub. Once you’ve selected the size, bread, and meat, you can then choose the type of cheese.

You can see from the above screenshot that this location offers all six types of cheeses (American cheese, Pepper Jack, Provolone, Swiss, Monterey Cheddar, and Shredded Mozzarella).

Remember that the nutritional facts will vary depending on what size sandwich you get. If you’re trying to lose weight (in a caloric deficit) a smaller 6″ sub is the better option.

As you can see from the information above, the lowest calorie cheese at Subway is their American. Where the variety with the most amount of calories is Swiss cheese.

This is also something important to remember when you’re selecting Subway sauces and other toppings. Although these selections can taste delicious, it’s where calories can really start to add up.
